PrintCOLUMBIA — In the 101st minute, Missouri sophomore Kristin Andrighetto split two Texas Tech defenders and chipped a shot over the diving goalie to give the Tigers a 4-3 double-overtime win in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday in San Antonio, Texas.
After Texas Tech took an early lead on a Zhaleh Rezaie goal in the fifth minute, Andrigetto tied the game with a goal in the 13th minute. Missouri (13-6) then caught a break and took a haltime lead when a Tech defender accidentally headed the ball into her own goal.
An Alysha Bonnick goal seconds into the second half put Missouri up 3-1 and seemed to give the Tigers control of the game. However, Tech started to get several offensive chances late in the game. After some saves by MU goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore, including a save of a penalty kick, Texas Tech broke through with two goals in 23 seconds to tie the game in the 84th minute.
Dittamore was shaken up attempting to save the tying goal, so Mallory Forst came in and played shutout defense for the rest of the game.
Missouri regained the momentum with an aggressive offensive attack in the first overtime, and then Andrighetto’s second goal of the game, her 14th of the season, gave the Tigers the win.
“We were able to not break,” Missouri coach Bryan Blitz said. “We just bent. We rode (Texas Tech’s) momentum out.”
Missouri now faces the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Texas A&M, at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Texas A&M (16-2-2) defeated Iowa State in the first round on penalty kicks after the game was tied at 1 following the second overtime. Missouri defeated Texas A&M 3-2 in double-overtime on Sept. 28 at Walton Stadium.
