Columbia was featured on a segment of Comedy Central’s "The Colbert Report" on Wednesday night.
The segment, called “Monkey on the Lam,” showed printouts of Missourian stories “Officials search for monkey’s owner” and “Monkey business is not new to Columbia.”
The stories stem from two incidents Sept. 22 when children were bitten at Stephens Lake Park.
During the segment, comedian Stephen Colbert read a quote from Columbia/Boone County Animal Control officer Molly Aust indicating that the monkey was likely a Rhesus Macaque, but "We are not monkey experts."
Colbert, whose show mocks news-oriented shows such as the "O’Reilly Factor," said, “Come on! Columbia, Missouri, doesn’t have a full-time monkey expert? What is Homeland Security doing with all that cash?”
