Billie R. Hawks
Billie R. Hawks of Columbia lived a life dedicated to service.
Last employed by Preferred Hospice, Mrs. Hawks will be remembered for a strong devotion to her patients and their families.

She was born April 9, 1956, in Beckley, W. Va., to William and Rayalene (Bailey) Brizendine.
Mrs. Hawks graduated from Grove City High School in Ohio and later earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Concord College in West Virginia.
She married William Hawks on July 25, 1980, in Beckley.
Aside from taking care of patients, Mrs. Hawks was a talented writer.
“Billie was the only person I knew who would rather write somebody a letter than call them on the phone,” Brizendine said.
She had also written regularly for a church newsletter.
Mrs. Hawks is survived by her parents; her husband; a son, Justin Hawks of Pikeville, N.C.; two brothers, James Brizendine and Robert Brizendine of Ohio; two aunts, Raymona Marlow and Raychel Houston; and several nieces and nephews.
