Howard E. Heidbrink
COLUMBIA — Howard E. Heidbrink of Columbia died Monday, May 19, 2008. He was 81.
He was born March 18, 1927, in Freedom to Ervin and Georgia (Mason) Heidbrink.
Heidbrink served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before receiving his bachelor’s degree in Education from Central Missouri State College in 1950. He also received his Master of Education in 1955 and his Doctorate of Education in 1966, both from MU.
Dr. Heidbrink held a variety of positions in education from 1948 to 1966. He worked as a high school teacher, an assistant high school principal and a junior high school principal.
Dr. Heidbrink was also a part-time instructor in the College of Education at MU, a director of Curriculum Development in Springfield, the superintendant of schools for Montgomery County R-II and an assistant superintendant-business for the Kansas City Center Independent District.
In 1984, he retired and took a position as a financial consultant for the Missouri School Boards Association in Columbia. Dr. Heidbrink also served as a treasurer for the Retired Teachers Association.
He married Anita Martin Vest on June 24, 1989.
Dr. Heidbrink is survived by a daughter, Della Luaders; a sister, Dorothy; a sister-in-law, Dee Chapman; three step-children, David and Thomas Vest and Amy Vest Smith; two grandchildren, Karen and Kevin Stewart; two step-grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Vest; and numerous nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Beverly Stewart, died earlier.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St. A private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
