Dortha Ruth Brown
ASHLAND — Dortha Ruth Brown of Ashland died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Ashland Healthcare. She was 85.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Beaver, Okla., to William Richard and Ida Jane Legan Rose. She married Jesse Albert Brown on Dec. 27, 1936.
Those who knew Mrs. Brown said she was a loving person who always wanted to help people and loved children, Gary Brown, her son, said.
Mrs. Brown had a passion for cooking and exercised that in various bakeries and kitchens including the kitchen at MU, where she worked until her retirement.
Gary Brown remembers coming in early in the morning from work and his mother waking up to make him breakfast.
“No matter what time it was, if I wanted it, she would make it,” Gary Brown said.
Mrs. Brown will be remembered as a person who would “do anything for anyone,” Gary Brown said.
Survivors include her five sons, William Brown of Hallsville, Albert Brown of Louisville, Ky., Gary Brown and Charles Brown, both of Ashland, and Kerry Brown of Hartsburg; two daughters, Joyce Boyce of Boise, Idaho, and Jane Floyd of Solo; one brother, William Rose of Beaver, Okla.; one sister, Bedelia Bea Ragan of Beaver, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, a son, Ronald Brown, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five sisters and three brothers died earlier.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home, 601 N. Henry Clay Blvd. in Ashland. Services, conducted by the Rev. David Ray, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery, 6300 E. New Salem Lane, Ashland.
