London Homeless Charity – SHP
SHP, London’s homeless charity was established in 1977 by a group of homeless people and was founded as one of the most innovative and successful homeless charities and agencies being set up in London towards the end of the 1970s. SHP or (Single Homeless Project), like the other agencies was born in response to the desperate needs for housing of single people excluded from the homeless persons’ legislation introduced around the time.
One of the reasons why SHP has been so successful and the key drivers were the efforts of a person who had unfortunately experienced long term homelessness including having lived in the majority of London’s homeless shelters. He then became SHP’s first employee and it was his drive and and emphasis on the rights of single homeless homeless people that honed the early thinking and range of services that SHP have developed.
